Cairo, un uomo dalla pelle ambrata si prepara per un amore francese al suo primo viaggio in Europa lasciando alle spalle la miseria dei vicoli della sua città e i lussuosi grattaciele lungo il Nilo. Spaccati di vita quotidiana che accompagneranno Yussef nel suo cammino europeo mentre un tiranno ambasciatore francese cercherà in tutti i modi di allontanare sua figlia da quest’amore clandestino. La piega che la vita di Yussef prenderà, si ripercuoterà su quella di molte altre persone.

Questo John Altman ancora non lo sa. Impegnato nelle sue ricerche sulla clonazione, la relazione con sua moglie si sta sgretolando sotto i suoi occhi/piedi ma lui non se ne rende conto. Decisioni prese in qualche grotta dell’Himalaya o del Sahara cambierànno per sempre la sua vita verso la ricerca costante di una rinascita, un risuscitare fantasmi del passato.

Sullo sfondo di un ipotetico futuro si intreccia il dramma umano di due destini convergenti e paralleli, appartenenti a mondi destinati a non capirsi, costretti loro malgrado a prendere atto dell’odio provocato da razzismo e interessi politici ed economici.
Eppure proprio il destino li avrebbe fatti incontrare in circostanze improbabili; ma sarebbe bastato quell’incontro a fargli espiare il dolore e gli sbagli di una vita?

Dalla moltitudine umana Vincenzo Mattei estrapola singoli individui rendendo ognuno di essi protagonista della propria storia, spaziando liberamente tra vittime e carnefici sapientemente disegnati nella loro volubilitá e interscambiabilitá, spazio in cui noi stessi veniamo coinvolti rimbalzando da un luogo all’altro o da un epoca all’altra perdendo a volte i punti di riferimento, ma allora forse raggiungiamo il senso sottinteso dall’autore stesso srotolando sapientemente la realtà contemporanea degli ultimi 15 anni. Cosa è cambiato dal 11 Settembre del 2001? Quanto a lungo ci poteremo dietro gli strascichi dei conflitti in Medio Oriente? Dagli incastri di due caratteri di due mondi lontani intravediamo una luce: la possibile speranza al di lá della non-fine di ogni cosa.

ولكن هل يكفي التلاقي للتكفير عن أحزان الحياة و أخطائها؟

إنه يخلق عالماً لا يجد القارئ مفراً من الانخراط فيه، ولا

ينفك يقفز من مكان إلى مكان ومن حقبة إلى حقبة، وقد يفقد القارئ كل مرجعياته، ولكن لعله يصل في النهاية إلى المغزى الذي قصده الكاتب وهو استعراض الواقع في الخمسة عشر (15) سنة الأخيرة. كيف تغير الواقع منذ الحادي عشر من سبتمبر 2001؟

إلام نحمل عبء الشرق الأوسط بصراعاته؟

إنا لنرى بصيصاً من النور من امتزاج شخصيتين وعالمين متغايرين: أمل محتمل في سرمدية كل شئ.

Cairo, a man with amber coloured skin prepares, out of love, for his first trip to Europe. He will leave behind his shoulders the poverty of Cairo streets and the luxury skyscrapers along the Nile, life experiences that will accompany Yussef during his European experience. Meanwhile, a tyrannical French ambassador will try by any means to take away his daughter from a clandestine love. Yussef’s life will turn in such a way that it will influence life of many people.

But all of this John Altman cannot figure out. Fully committed to his research on cloning, he does not realize that the relation with his wife is breaking out under his eyes. Decisions taken somewhere else, in Himalaya or in the Sahara Desert, will change his life toward a constant enquiry over his reborn patient, pushing him to confront the s nightmares of the past.

In the background of a hypothetical future, the human drama of two distinct but parallel contexts become intertwined: both belonging to worlds destined not to understand each other, even though they both come to learn the hatred provoked by racism, political and economic interests.

And yet destiny would have them meeting in such improbable circumstances: will such a meeting compensate the sadness and mistakes of life?

Vincenzo Mattei selects singular individuals out of the multitude. He makes each of them the protagonist of his own story, freely choosing between victims and hangmen, wisely drawn in his volubility and interchangeability. He creates an environment in which we also get involved, bouncing back from one place to another, from one epoch to another, at times losing all points of reference but reaching in the end the very point intended by the author: to run across the contemporary reality of last 15 years. What changed since September 11^th 2001? How long will we carry the aftermath of Middle East conflicts? From the crossroad of two characters, and two distant worlds, we are able to glimpse a light: a possible hope beyond the endlessness of everything.
